RPA vs AI

The difference between rule-based robotic process automation and AI that handles judgment and ambiguity.

RPA versus AI is the contrast between two ways of automating work. Robotic process automation follows fixed, recorded rules, clicking through screens and moving data exactly as told. AI, by contrast, interprets unstructured inputs and makes decisions when the situation is ambiguous or new.

The distinction matters because the two fail in different ways. RPA is fast, cheap, and predictable on stable, structured tasks, but it breaks the moment a screen, format, or edge case changes. AI absorbs that variability and exercises judgment, at the cost of needing evaluation, monitoring, and guardrails to stay reliable.

At arosplatforms we do not treat this as either-or. We combine them: RPA for the deterministic plumbing, AI for the steps that require reading, classifying, or deciding. The art is drawing the line correctly so each does what it is genuinely good at.
